More Than 150 Education Professionals Gather for Inclusion Conference 2026
Babington Academy was proud to welcome more than 150 delegates to Inclusion Conference 2026, delivered in partnership with Learning without Limits Academy Trust, Leicester City Council and Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM).
The conference brought together school leaders, teachers, SEND professionals, inclusion specialists and education partners from across the region for a day dedicated to sharing expertise, strengthening collaboration and shaping the future of inclusive education.
The day began with a warm welcome from Fiona Laywood, Principal at Babington Academy, Sophie Maltby, Director of SEND and Education at Leicester City Council, and Dr Kenny Frederick, Executive Lead for School Improvement at IQM.
Delegates then heard an inspiring keynote address from psychologist, university lecturer and award-winning author Dr Katriona O'Sullivan. Drawing on her personal journey and professional experience, Dr O'Sullivan encouraged delegates to reflect on the barriers many young people face and the life-changing impact that inclusive education can have.
Following the keynote, Shelley Piercy and Fiona Laywood led an engaging session exploring the development of Leicester's new Inclusion Strategy. Delegates were invited to contribute their ideas and experiences, helping to shape a shared vision for inclusive education across the city.
Throughout the afternoon, delegates took part in a range of workshops covering topics including person-centred planning, mental health, outdoor learning, early years practice, specialist support, funding and inclusive school improvement. These sessions encouraged discussion, shared practical strategies and celebrated the excellent work already taking place across our schools and communities.
Alongside the conference programme, delegates enjoyed an Inclusion Art Exhibition showcasing the creativity and talents of learners, explored a variety of information stands and had valuable opportunities to network with colleagues from across Leicester and beyond.
The conference concluded with a moving performance from Babington Swans, Their rendition of Natasha Bedingfield's Unwritten provided a fitting end to a day centred on aspiration, belonging and the belief that every learner deserves the opportunity to flourish.
Learning without Limits Academy Trust would like to extend its sincere thanks to Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM), Leicester City Council, our keynote speaker, workshop facilitators, exhibitors, volunteers and the staff of Babington Academy, whose hard work and commitment made the conference possible. We are also grateful to every delegate who attended, shared their expertise and contributed so positively throughout the day.
By bringing together professionals with a shared commitment to inclusion, the conference reinforced the importance of collaboration in ensuring that every child and young person has the opportunity to succeed. We look forward to building on the conversations and partnerships established during the day and continuing to work together to create more inclusive schools and communities.
